Established by renowned Gynecologist - Late Dr. Utpal Ray in the year 1993 with a vision of giving medico legal assistance to Medical Practitioners and Establishments all over India in the field of Professional Indemnity Insurance that gives full medico-legal protection to Doctors & Medical Establishments arising out of professional "Error or Omissions" & Negligence.

Late Dr. Utpal Ray
Dr. Utpal Ray, MD FRCOG was a highly acclaimed Surgeon practicing Gynaecology, He graduated from the Royal College of Gynecology, London in 1979 and was made a Fellow of the Royal College in 1994.
Sreela Ray
Mrs. Sreela Ray has been attached with our company since its inception and has been proficiently handling the affairs of the company with her adroit managerial skills and dexterous organizational abilities.

Since inception, MEDEF has been serving Medical Practitioners and Establishments with Medico-Legal assistance with the help of Compensation Liability Insurance (Professional Indemnity Insurance Policy) through Insurance Companies approved by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) from its Registered Office at Flat No.2, Paul Mansion 6, Bishop Lefroy Road Kolkata 700 020.

In the present socio-economic condition of our society, there is a remarkable rise of litigation against Medical Practitioners and Establishments arising out of professional "Error or Omissions" & Negligence. In this regard MEDEF has a panel of distinguished Lawyers on Pan India basis to give emergency legal support and assistance, appropriate legal advice and counselling, drafting of reply against any complaint received by the medical practitioners as well as the medical establishment from West Bengal Medical Council and any other quasi judicial authority and / or consumer commissions.

MEDEF arranges for opinion and suggestion through their panel of legal experts when second or expert opinion is required.

Appropriate co-ordination between Doctor – Lawyer – Court
MEDEF takes the entire responsibility from the time a Medical Practitioners or Medical Establishments, who are MEDEF members, receives a notice / summon from District Consumer Disputes Redressal Fora, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions, West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC), National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and also Supreme Court of India. In such cases MEDEF provides emergency legal support and assistance, appointment of lawyer for appropriate legal advice and counselling, drafting of reply against any complaint and taking appropriate legal steps.
